About

The Downingtown Area Historical Society's mission is to preserve and promote the history of the Downingtown area through an extensive archives, oral programs, displays, publications and social media.  We are an all-volunteer organization headquartered in the ca. 1709 Ashbridge House located at 849 East Lancaster Avenue (next to the Chick-Fil-A Restaurant) in East Caln Township just east of the Downingtown Borough line.

The Historical Society serves the Downingtown community over an area which covers approximately the region bounded by the Downingtown Area School District and includes Downingtown Borough, and the townships of East Brandywine, East Caln, Upper Uwchlan, Uwchlan, Wallace, West Bradford, and West Pikeland.

Since we are an all-volunteer organization, we cannot be open to the public every day. However, we are open 1-4 PM every Sunday, except for major holidays, and we can arrange to be open on other occasions if you contact us beforehand at: dths1709@gmail.com, or call 610-269-1709
